Last month my boyfriend and I went on a little citytrip to Venice. We had such an amazing time (post coming soon) visiting the city and we had the most delicious food while eating out in Venice!
We started the day at the airport with a delicious donut, some coffee and a hot chocolate. Couldn’t think of a better way to start my birthday-day.
The first meal we had when we arrived in Venice was a simple but delicious sandwich with some complementary chips. Simple but filling!
After some exploring we got a little bit hungry, hungry for ice cream that is! We stumbled upon this little gelateria called La mela verde. They had a variety of flavours but I ended up with one of my all time favourites, straciatella. I also had a scoop of cookies and cream, a really delicious and cooling ice cream I must stay.
When we arrived back at our little hotel for some freshing up before dinner we were awaited by a surprise. It was my birthday that day and my boyfriend asked if we could get a little card with happy birthday in our room but instead we got a bottle of champagne, very nice of them!
After our downtime we went on a hunt for dinner. There are a lot of possibilities for eating out in Venice but we sadly fell for a tourist trap. We ate near the Rialto bridge, first mistake. We were really hungry so we just ate at the first restaurant we saw, second mistake. We had mediocre service and the same with the food. I got a pizza which tasted fine, but not as wonderful as I hoped it to be.
After our breakfast at the hotel we stumbled upon the market. When the smell hit us with fresh fruits we really wanted to get something. So we got two red apples, they were huge!
We researched some places on TripAdvisor to eat and saw a nice take away pasta place at the top of the list. We got there right as they opened and got a quick service. I got the 4 cheeses pasta and it was so yummy! You could really taste it was as fresh as they said, they urge you to eat it as soon as you got your order to have a nice eating experience.
Instead of only eating out in Venice, we went drinking as well! When we got a little parched we went to The Hard rock Café, and I got a smoothie like drink and the mister got a beer. A nice ‘escape’ from the sun that day.
And we couldn’t leave before we had another ice cream ofcourse! We went to this trendy looking place, it was a self-service ice cream/froyo/drinks shop. It was a bit more expensive than the other places but we could sit inside and even had the opportunity to charge your phone, which is handy.
I saw this big donut everywhere so I naturally had to try it – hehe.
For a little appetizer that night we found a fun shop and got some salmon popsicles. After the appetizer we went to the restaurant and got a meat platter as a first course, delicious! I chose the chicken dish for main, nice but not the best I ever had.
On our last day we ate a sandwich at the airport. Nice but a bit overpriced but then again, which airport isn’t?
This is probably the longest food post I ever made, sorry about that! I also wished I took more pictures with my good camera but m I had to make do with my iphone most of the time, sorry about that.
Ever been eating out in Venice? What food did you love/hate?
